Scaling Sci Fi 15mm Miniatures
It is pretty clear I like short miniatures if I play Tau, now I take it even further, well – shorter. Following a recent product 15mm miniatures release by Khurasan Miniatures; their FDF Exterminator Squad in Extreme Enviro Suits to be precise, I’ve taken the dive into 15mm gaming.
These lads distinctly reminded me of XCOM – Terror from the Deep Magnetic Ion Armor the moment I saw them.
I will admit to instantly trying this colour scheme first. But I’m beginning to zero in on something like this :
Not unlike Khurasan’s scheme and I think this is why I picked them up; it’s the sort of utilitarian colours I would have used anyhow However I prefer to define the weapons and shade the dome nicely. Additionally I may add some small details (literally) to make it seem they have shield genies etc.
Either way, looking forward to the models and painting them.
In my exploration of 15mm, I’ve been hunting down scale comparisons through the myriad ranges out there – hit jackpot this weekend. Check out this massive database of images showing every miniature out there side by side. Absolutely brilliant resource.
More soon;
Seb.

Wow – that’s a resource! Thanks very much for the link. Will you be looking to match 40K factions at 15mm or using a different setting?
Hi Porky,
Indeed isn’t it? Eclipsed my feeble download collection of compare images in one page refresh. I think I will post up what I have collected too; for completeness sake.
I’m going to move away from 40k, using scale difference as the departure; instead exploring a setting that’s background for a novel I am working on (Uni thing).
But firstly; look forward to painting this lot!

A new setting is even more interesting. I’d bet a lot of people would be intrigued to see what you have planned, and would recommend posting as much on the setting here as you feel comfortable with – it could spark all kinds of experimentation and encouragement and even be good long-term promotion for the novel.
