Warhammer 40k, Second Edition
|For many long time readers, you know that 40k Second Edition is where I think the heart of 40k is. You can play very simple tactical games and even introduce Necromunda rules to deliver yet more detail. I can barely recall a game from any other version, but 2nd edition is vivid.
So I’ve begun to buy up components, first was a good quality set of the rule books, which I acquired recently from Australia. The seller even included a classic White Dwarf. Unwittingly it was the first White Dwarf I bought which had Warhammer Quest article in it.
This meant a lot for me, paging through not only my teenager memories of 40k, but also a White Dwarf which was my first expansion for Warhammer Quest.
I’ll keep you posted on this long term project, but essentially; I’m recreating the forces from 2nd Ed. in current plastics. The toughest part will be the cards.
As always, thanks for reading,
Seb.
Those early white dwarfs are gold dust, when I read them back, well I just relive the whole exciting experience of discovering those great GW games. Very precious 🙂
Agreed, I still have my very first White Dwarf with Space Wolf Teminators on the cover. This copy was lost to time, so it was nice to randomly receive it in the mail again. Great read flipping through it. Nostalgia is real folks haha.
2nd was my introduction to the game too, and I have very happy memories of playing on the floor of my dorm room. Simpler times!
Indeed Sir! Mine was the battle of Coffee Table valley and the stand-in Yoghurt punnet bunker with green towel fields. (later to be replaced by the Citadel binker cardboard excerpt from White Dwarf)
Any idea what army you will start with? I spent plenty of my disposable income last year buying 2nd ed genestealer cult and eldar models which I could paint up for a game anytime.
Hi mate, I have all the cards from both 2nd edition 40k and dark millennium , me and my mate play 2nd edition once a month, it’s the only 40k we know, we’ve never played any of the newer ones
I could scan the stuff you don’t have and send it to you via email if you want?
There was some data fax cards late on in the 2nd edition that was only available in some of the white dwarf magazines which I don’t have though
Man, sounds like a games night I could get into. 😀
Those White Dwarf datafax are tough to track down, completely agree.
If you visit wargamerau.com and find the second edition page you will find all the old second edition datafax. You can also find warp cards, psysic powers and more. Print it out and you are ready to play. Best regards soren
Thank you Soren! 🙂 Appreciate the help 😀
