Warhammer, Forest Spiders
|I’ve begun working on the raiding Spider Rider mounts, and first thing that grabbed me was their lack of well, spiderly ways. After some patient hobby knife work and cleaning, I’ve found that you can carve out the fore legs (all six) and re-position with some success into convincing poses.
There is one that I have already redone, the rearing back pose; I’ve gone for a more low level attack version.
I am waiting on the Arachnorok riders to arrive from a favoured bits seller (Bits&Kits) – they’ll make more lively riders than the current kneeling goblin. I think there’s a trend for like, zero standard models in my army/minion horde.
I’ll repost when I have the goblins added to the conversions.
thanks for reading!
Sebastian.

Great stuff, who would have thought that those legs could be repositioned to such effect, very impressive Seb 🙂
Thanks man, I’ve seen it done for dioramas a couple of times; I was more after a scuttling troupe. 🙂
That is, indeed, quite the improvement! (Eyes his own spiders menacingly..)
Chuckle, I eyed my militia after seeing yours haha Thanks man 🙂
Great work! I should have snapped up another regiment of the spiders from the starter when they were still available.
Thansk LP 🙂 If it weren’t international shipping I’d help you out, I have ten spare spiders as it is.
Makes a HUGE difference! Love your work.
Cheers! Yeah big difference, glad for the effort.
These are wonderful!!! I’ve had 30 of these guys waiting around for the inspiration to catch me and now I know why I haven’t gotten to them yet. I’m totally going to snag this idea. For the riders I’ve cast a dozen or so copies of the body with no head or arms as well as extra of the extra arms and bows as I’m planning to make them a bit more dynamic than the standard, but I look forward to seeing what you come up with!
Thanks again 🙂 I’ve got about 30 also, haha from gathering up troops for conversions. Ahhh you’re being smart with the conversions, I’ve been operating off Bitz from Arachnorok kit and the Spider kit. Look forward to those on Instagram 😉
Hello,
I really love this conversion that you made. I would like to follow your example, however I have never converted warhammer miniatures before. I was hoping to see if you could provide me with a bit of additional information on how you were able to achieve these different spider poses. Thank you and any information you could provide me with, would be very much appreciated.

Thank you 🙂 The spider poses unfortunately cost a couple other Spiders’ their own legs – I had to shave away the legs of others to produce the more spread poses. You will see that the rear legs are fused close to the body, which need to be shaved back; then you add the carefully separated spare legs to suit the poses. It is fiddly work, but worth it.
Did the forest goblins ever get painted?
Way laid by the large common goblin horde. I’ve got a regiment of 15 spearmen painted up though. In related news I’ve been stockpiling parts and built archers too.
These look great, I have been thinking of a way to making these more dynamic? Did you finish these? I would love to see how to got the riders onto the spiders, its a problem I’ve tried and failed to crack!
Thanks Richard! Indeed, next project for my goblins will be painting these up all together. To match the spearmen regiment I have already 🙂
