Warhammer Goblin Tutorial
|And finally, a look at parts for Mountain Goblins!
The dour faced and oddily regimented Mountain Goblins use the following:
– Original Goblin / Grot regiment legs and torso with a 40k Grot head.
– Current Night Goblin arms, Bretonnian or Empire spear shaft. Any style of halberd tips.
– Original Goblin regiment wooden shield also.
As you can see, makes for a slimmer Goblin with a bit of kit bashing. Now onto the painting!
My Goblin/grot skin paints use various ratios I get healthy, deep greens and also paler greens. For example, dour shadowy Mountain Goblins and richer hued Forest Goblin (getting their Vitamin Green(?) in the sun)
I start with Vallejo Yellow Olive 892 base, Knarloc Green layer wash with AP Strong Tone (Devlan mud equivalent.)
Then re-highlight with Knarloc and Loren Forest followed by then ratios of that with Straken.
Highlighting or even go a full shade up for paler skin and use Vallejo Stone Grey 104 for lightest edgings.
The Shaman shown is using the paler end of the palette for example.
Hope this helps populate more gobbos throughout the lands! – Sebastian 🙂
Ooh that shaman!
I always had the idea that common gobbos should be slightly larger than night and forest goblins… something that GW has ruined with their plastic releases (or the lack there of)
I agree, the Goblin Regiment whilst larger, are comically so – theyre even bigger than humans!? This method slims them down, but keeps that size difference thankfully. I too feel there is variety in that; Night Goblin > Forest > Steppes > Hobgoblin > Orcs 🙂
Snotling>Gnobler too! Greenies abound.
I think it is really the head that is the worst in the standard goblin box. Well sculpted for the time, but just so huge!
Oh yah yah – (facepalm) Snotlings and Gnoblars too 😀 Totally agree about the Goblin Head, which is why I nearly exclusively use 40K Grot heads 😉
Thanks for the tutorial Seb. I really like your Mountain Goblins and will be converting a small amount in a similar vein for WQ , so this is really useful.
I may have to pick your brains further though 🙂
Oh man, slowly but surely the Goblins of Axe Bite Pass will expand their territory. I should write up a small blurb on them for character flavour, so they’re not just Goblin makeovers, but actually different type of opponent.
