Warhammer, Goblin Wolf riders

I’ve been looking for a type of Wolf  for my mountain goblins to ride; nothing quite stacks up against the more abstract lines of recent goblin plastics. I’ve looked at all sorts of mounts, from various miniature ranges (Redbox games forthcoming models look great) and back to GW. The new wolves to the Orc boars, however I really disliked their massive scaling when compared to a Bretonnian War Horse for example:

See that model on the far right..? That’s a Chaos Warhound.

I swear I heard a chorus of goblins dressed up in Angel drag when I saw these plastic hounds. I had not realised there were such beasts in plastic; having dismissed them as the 6/7th edition metal models.

As you can see the size is quite appropriate for my leaner, wicked goblin hordes:

So excited with this modelling discovery, I couldn’t leave one well alone without carving and cutting Goblin rider legs to fit. You need to cut one leg at the hip and tilt inward slightly for a better leg hold; I’ll slow down my enthusiasm enough to take step photos.

For now, I’m just beaming with glee at discovering something that is meancing, but is not over the top in scale. Suitably like a hyena pack assaulting lion; I can see a Bretonnian War Horse fending off a pack of these goblin riders.

My thinking is, unlike the lithe wolves of the steppes and plains goblins; mountain goblins have bred a compact, vicious, mountain “dog” from a corrupted line of wolves. Perfect for rock hopping and charging through tight confines of foothill forests.

I need to carve out the odd spine or two, trim the dorsal fur to fit the goblin and then sculpt in hair, ears, wargear, saddle cloth and design a tail for them. But finally.. I have my goblin wolf riders just how I want them.
